If the stups ia a LATER structure, say of 3rd cent. BCE, Marshall has failed to demosntrate that there was continuous settlement at Mohenjo-daro from 2500 BCE to ca.300 BCE.Ziggurat is an enormous brick structure like a stepped pyramid (cf. Sit Shamshi bronze venerating the Sunrise). I posit that the so-called stupa is a ziggurat and contemporaneous with mature period of the civilization, ca. 2500 BCE and compares with the ziggurat in Chogha Zanbil.

Pieces of Mohenjo-daro.
1. The Stupa Mound, Mohenjo-daro after excavations in the 1920s, "Street Looking east, with Great Bath on left" (Marshall).

2. Great Bath and Granary, SD Area, looking west from the stupa mound. The great bath surrounded by a brick colonnade, measures approximately 12 meters north-south and 7 meters wide, with a maximum depth of 2.4 meters. In the background is a massive brick structure with narrow passages that was first identified as a hammam or hot-air bath, and later as the state granary.
