'Brinda Karat has not read Manusmriti'
Brinda Karat (the lady with the huge bindi on her forehead) has clearly not read her Manusmriti which has become the favourite whipping boy of liberals and leftists alike. In a rather pompous statement the other day she rebuked the unfortunate Mohan Bhagwat, leader of the RSS for being representative of the RSS's (alleged by her) antideluvian mentality since he called for the Manusmriti to be included in the Indian Constitution.
Scholars are agreed that there were many later interpolations to the text which were designed to show that Manu was a misogynist. However, contemporary readings of the text tell a different story. Manu advocated many progressive measures for women. . . . There has been so much misrepresentation of Shri Bhagawat's speeches in the liberal press that it is hard to verify the authenticity of his remarks. At any rate, if he did call for some aspects of Manusmriti to be included in the Constitution, then in light of the above, he should be commended.
