Kirti Azad: Delhi Cricket Body Gave Contracts to Fake Companies, Paid Crores in Cash
NEW DELHI:  Cricketer turned politician Kirti Azad has accused the Delhi cricket body of massive financial irregularities, including giving contracts to fake companies, paying them crores in cash and fudging auditing. He said the matter should be probed by the Enforcement Directorate and charges should be framed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
  1. "Let me start out by saying I'm a big fan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his campaign against corruption... We are going to make an audio video presentation that WikiLeaks4India has produced," Kirti Azad said at a media conference in Delhi.
1 The former cricketer said, "I just want to expose corruption, the accounts of it will be explained later.  I repeat, this is not a personal or against one person. It is against corruption."

2 The video claims DDCA had given contracts to various companies but the addresses given for these were found to be false. It also alleges that the DDCA hired office and other equipment, at Rs16000 for a laptop per day, Rs. 3000 for printer per day, Rs. 5000 for 'puja ki thali'.

4 Admitting to financial irregularities, the DDCA accused its former chief Sneh Bansal of embezzling funds. The cricket body said action has been taken against him.
5 In a tweet, Mr Azad had earlier taken a dig at the Finance Minister, who had reportedly called him a "Trojan horse". "Not a Trojan horse but Achilles heel; wait till I unmask the 'behroopiya' (chameleon)," Mr Azad tweeted.
6 The former cricketer also refuted Mr Jaitley's reported charge that he had met Sonia Gandhi with a plan to target him. "If someone (Mr Jaitley) is raising these allegations, he must know that four fingers will point back at him," he said.
7 Finance Minister Jaitley, who was headed DDCA for 13 years till 2013, has been accused of corruption by Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party. AAP has demanded that Mr Jaitley must resign or be "removed" from the union cabinet to enable an independent probe.
8 Mr Jaitley has rejected the allegations, calling them a propaganda technique of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to deflect attention from CBI raid on an officer close to him. In a Facebook post, Mr Jaitley has said, "The Serious Fraud Investigation Office, under the UPA regime, investigated and could not find a shred of evidence against me."
9 After Mr Azad promised to make more revelations at a media conference, BJP chief Amit Shah reportedly met him and tried to dissuade him from making allegations against Mr Jaitley when the AAP was targeting him, sources have told NDTV.
10 Former India batsman Virender Sehwag has thrown his weight behind Mr Jaitley, saying he was "available for players in case of any difficulty".
