Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has referred to the proceeds from sales of her paintings — one of the most controversial issues in Bengal now. The following are what Trinamul documents had shown till now and what the chief minister told a civic poll campaign meeting in Burrabazar on Friday.
TRINAMUL HAD SAID
Figures from the annual audit reports the Trinamul Congress had submitted to the Election Commission of India. Mukul Roy, the then all-India general secretary of the party, was the official signatory.
Earnings from the sale of paintings in 2011-12: Rs 3,93,90,000 (Rs 3.94 crore)
Earnings from the sale of paintings in 2012-13: Rs 2,53,00,000 (Rs 2.53 crore)
Total earnings from paintings in two years: Rs 6.47 crore

MAMATA SAYS NOW
Total proceeds from two or three exhibitions of 250 to 300 paintings: “Rs 2 crore something”
Difference between the two versions: Rs 4.47 crore
Highest price fetched: Rs 20 lakh. Several others sold for between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh
Rs 100-crore value: Mamata added: “I have gifted small paintings to hundreds of people because they liked them.
I am not a painter. People have accepted the creation of my hands. If I had sold these paintings, they would have fetched Rs 100 crore.”
Use of funds (updated): “After becoming chief minister, I donated Rs 1.10 crore to the chief minister’s relief fund and another Rs 10 lakh to the governor’s relief fund. I did not take a single penny. The money went to the account of Jago Bangla (the party mouthpiece).”
Use of funds (then): On February 7, 2013,
Mamata had said: “From the funds raised from the exhibition (at the Townhall annexe), I have decided to donate Rs 10 lakh to the governor’s relief fund and Rs 25 lakh to the chief minister’s relief fund. I will give Rs 5 lakh each to our three candidates contesting the by-elections. The rest of the money would go to the Spastics Society.”
