NEW DELHI: As senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy announced to file a public interest litigation demanding a court-monitored probe into the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, senior Delhi police officers are preparing grounds to defend themselves in the case.
Sunanda was found dead in a suite in the Leela Palace on the night of January 17. Two staff members and Tharoor himself were present in the suite when they found her body, a day after a Twitter spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over the latter’s alleged affair with Tharoor.
Interestingly, now after lapse of 11 months, the investigators tarted getting “fresh evidences” in Sunanda’s mysterious death after Swamy’s move. While the AIIMS doctors have been claiming from Day one that police were not co-operating in the case and were hiding crucial evidences, the police always tried to defend itself.
Four days ago, police claimed that they visited room 345 of the Leela Palace hotel once again and found that some of Sunanda’s belongings were missing. They also claimed that on the revisit of the crime spot after 11 months, they have found fresh evidences like broken glass and collected traces of fluid marks from the bed. Strangely, the same cops ignored these ‘evidences’ then.
Sources said a top police officer first tried to botch up up the investigation by sidelining the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police who had opined that prime facie, it seemed to be a murder case. The case was not even transferred to the Crime Branch. Now the top cop is trying to shield himself.
