Sunanda probe to end, cops ready MHA report
Sunanda Pushkar.
NEW DELHI: The Sunanda Pushkar death case may reach a conclusion in the coming weeks as Delhi Police is in the process of "winding up" the probe. TOI has learnt from sources that a detailed report on the police investigation is also going to be submitted to the home ministry.
Sources said that a team of officers, comprising addl DCP (south), ACP and SHO of Sarojini Nagar police station (the investigating officer), have "confined" themselves at RK Puram police station in south Delhi for the past one week and are reportedly busy tying the loose ends of the case.
Sources also say that statements of several people are being recorded under Section 161 CrPC and the evidence is being brought on record from scratch. The police brass, however, is still tightlipped on the developments.

The source said that after this exercise is over, there are only three possibilities. "Either the inquest may be closed, an FIR registered or the case may be transferred to CBI. It will not hang in the middle," the source added.
A meeting between the police commissioner, joint commissioner Vivek Gogia and addl DCP PS Kushwah was held behind closed doors after the current fiasco involving the AIIMS medical report surfaced last month. "As the case was attracting too much attention and allegations of a botch up had begun to be levelled, it was decided that the probe will be sped up and a logical conclusion drawn soon. The top cop apparently asked the joint CP and addl DCP to finish their work by mid-November," the source said.
The police source said that it was due to the decision of "winding up" that the cops wrote to Google and Yahoo requesting the email access details and also had the autopsy panel and forensic officials lift some samples from the carpet and other places in the room a few days ago.

The case has seen a plethora of hurdles since January 17 when Sunanda was found dead in suite number 345 of a five-star hotel in New Delhi.
First, the doctors and forensic officials gave a series of inconclusive reports regarding the cause of death after which the case juggled between crime branch and local police as the former was not ready to take the case. The case was also in limbo as even the SHO and the DCP left the probe after being transferred out and the ACP retired.
