BJP leader Subramanian Swamy alleged that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi are on the list of people who have black money abroad
Subramanian Swamy alleges both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are in black money list Posted by: Mukul Kumar Mishra Updated: Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 11:03 [IST]
New Delhi, Oct 28: At a time when Congress president Sonia Gandhi is worried about dwindling graph of the party, this salvo from Subramanian Swamy will definitely exacerbate her cup of woes. A day after the Modi Government revealed some selective names in black money case, the BJP leader Swamy has alleged that both Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi are on the list of people who have this illegal money stashed in the foreign bank. This has come at a time when their role in national herald scam is already under suspicion. When asked about his reaction on the issue, Swamy as quoted by ANI said, "I have written letter to the Finance Ministry and the Commission on black money that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi have black money stashed abroad. But no action has been taken. At least eight former cabinet ministers of the Congress are on the list". The government revealed three names -- Pradip Burman, Director of Dabur Group; Pankaj Chimanlal Lodhia, Rajkot based bullion trader and Ms Radha S Timblo, a Goa based miner on Monday. Apart from this, five of Timblo's directors Chetan Timblo, Rohan Timblo, Anna Timblo and Mallika Timblo were also figured in the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court by the government. But the step didn't augur well among the Opposition. The Modi government was flayed for this selective approach. Apart from these names, it is being rumoured that 4 more high-profile Congress candidates are also under the scanner. One among them is a former junior minister in the Manmohan Singh government. Inside sources say that I-T notices will be sent to all four candidates under question. Apart from a former Minister of State in the Congress-led coalition government, the group also includes a former parliamentarian from Uttar Pradesh, and two members of a major political family from Maharashtra. Earlier, the barbs were exchanged between Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and his predecessor P Chidambaram on the issue. On the matter of black money, the incumbent Finance Minister had said that if government will reveal name it will be big embarassment for the Congress party. On the rebuttal of that, Chidambaram said, "Whatever name is there will embarrass the individual, the party won't be". Couple of days ago, Jaitley had also said the government will make public names of only those people against whom there is a prosecutable case in connection with tax evasion through offshore accounts. In the run-up to Parliamentary polls, BJP had promised to bring back black money kept by Indians in overseas banks while targeting the UPA government for not taking effective action on the issue.
