When Rajdeep assaulted me
I write this for two reasons: to add context to what is evident from the Zee News video cliphttps://www.youtube.com/watch? v=54xGasucqAc ; to avoid a Rashomon like state and rebut Rajdeep Sardesai's attempt to paint himself the victim. He a big fish and has friends in the media, so he may succeed, but my job is to stand up.
Bored standing in the long line to get into MSG, I took a quick stroll and saw much media coverage, including the likes of Chaubey, Sawant and Sardesai. I noticed Rajdeep taunt a group of young Indians: He asked them 'Did Modi teach you to do this?..." i.e. shouting Rajdeep Murdabad.
Watch this video to see how Rajdeep was essentially trying to continue his 12 year hate-work in trying to tarnish the PM. http://indiatoday.intoday. in/video/rajdeep-sardesai- modi-crowd-frenzied-modi-fans- new-york/1/393219.html. Unable to get the 'negative' answers he's looking for, Rajdeep says 'So what you guys are saying is that the "Media" was unfair to Modi' (this part is not on videos I have seen). I immediately picked up his spin and shot back: Not the media, it is NewsTraders like you who are unfair. And I called him "NewsTrader No.1". This seems to have made him lose his mind: He removed his jacket, and walked over to me (this is the part in the zee news video) and started verbally abusing me ("arsehole" and other threat-cum-abuse). I was surprised at hearing the abuse and his threatening body language given his ever-cool studio self. I retorted with the same epithet. This led to his turning around and attacking me - grabs my collar and shoves me (guess its his privilege in his un-Modified India). I was left with no choice but to push him back.
I would urge people to note 4 things:
1. Rajdeep indulges in unprovoked tarnishing and demeaning of the Indian PM on foreign soil and Indians living there https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=7F1XP9I49Fw
2. Rajdeep starts the verbal abuse / intimidation
3. Rajdeep starts the physical assault
4. Rajdeep turns around and spins victimhood - 'frenzied Modi fans abuse him'.
Is it even remotely acceptable for a senior Indian journalist to engage in unprovoked insulting of our elected PM on foreign soil while he's on an important diplomatic tour, and wilfully trivialize a unique event (by continuing his political battle with the PM) that allowed the NRI community and the Indian Govt to build a stronger bond?
I believe you just cannot carry your personal battle with your PM onto foreign soil and cause harm to the country.
While I reflect upon what next steps to take, I urge everyone to write to the India Today group condemning such dastardly behavior by their 'senior' employee. I request the media (i have no faith in NewsTraders) to take this message to their viewership.
I reflected much on this since then -- what explains Rajdeep's egregious, shameful and harmful behavior? A apt word in American local parlance sums it up best: He's a Hater.
NYPD is not the Mumbai Police. File an assault complaint and provide them the evidence. We are all waiting to see the high and mighty tumble...
btw, US constitution gives 2nd amend right to deal with such idiot. For that assualt, he could have been be short at that site right there.
Better file that case with NYPD directly, hand over all evidence and DO NOT trust Indian authorities would be my advise. Stay strong...
We, as fellow NRIs, are asking Mahender, who claims to be the victim to file a complaint. The US is not India, you have NO EXCUSE to not file a police complaint and simply make allegations on a blog.
If there is any country in the world where the little guy has a chance to WIN against the big guy it is the USA!
So my humble request to Mahender, in the interest of justice, is to file a police complaint ASAP while Rajdeep is still in town!
The wiki says, "An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm. It is both a crime and a tort and, therefore, may result in either criminal and/or civil liability. Generally, the common law definition is the same in criminal and tort law. There is, however, an additional criminal law category of assault consisting of an attempted but unsuccessful battery. The term is often confused with battery, which involves physical contact."
Best wishes.

1) NRIs don't become any less Indians after leaving India
2) NRIs will stand shoulder to shoulder with their brothers & sisters at home to right size the modern "Mir Jaffers"& "Jai Chands"
Jai Hind!
I pity him..!!
Kudos to you and people around there, who kept real cool after all the provocation/instigation!!!
Good you stood up. Nothing wrong in pushing back a bully.
Anyway Mahender, you're a national hero. I don't know if you slapped him, but if you did, thanks. I hope this starts a trend.

We clamour around these news journalist as if they are hero's of modern time, fighting for India, instead they are chamchas of the 1st order, looking forward to remunerations in form of awards by their political friends. And we have placed them next to Bollywood hero's and heroine's.
POLITICIANS breed them for their own selfish motos. Almost all journalists have aligned themselves with some political party I.e Rajdeep with Congress
Rajat Sharma with BJP
The list goes on ...
Instead we all should follow and admire the unknown CAMERAMEN who risk their lives to bring the truth via their perfectly timed shots.
World over CAMERAMEN are respected except in India.
Its high time we stop hero worshiping these jounalists and get to know the cameramen instead by names and start following them instead of these Chamcha Journalist's.
There is a petition that is being run online
I urge everyone to sign this petition:
Disallow Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai from participating and embarrassing India in any international event in the future

If the journalist did not want to hear "Modi" chants - he should have not joined fans celebrating - rather stayed on a side where he would have quietness.
As long as we have media rascals like these, we are bound to have Rowdy Rajdeeps more and many....
Why was this tape not played in the TV channels the whole day? If it was a politician, will you guys maintain as much as quiteness as you do now?
If only such thing would have happened in a crowd of AAP supports, Rajdeep would have been admitted in the hospital with broken bones.
I dont know who needs further proof that this video that shows that Rajdeep was at fault. If you have any proof , please upload it in youtube. Otherwise accept the mistake and move on

Rajdeep says 'So what you guys are saying is that the "Media" was unfair to Modi' (this part is not on videos I have seen).
This link is available on youtube.
Rajdeep Sardesai has been for a long time acting like a subversive agent on behalf of the Breaking India forces. He has a demented mind that twists the truth to suit some very nefarious objectives.
The Rajdeep Sardesai video no one will post on youtube or Social Media!
Rajdeep was already trending on twitter after what happened earlier in the day before the Modi's speech at the Madison Square Garden. You guys saw that the video, didn't you. (This was shot before PM arrived at Madison Square Garden) But this is the episode that no one will tell you about, and in fact, I DARE EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO RECORDED THIS BUT WON'T POST IT FOR REASONS NOT TO BE NAMED.

The Story Part II ( Right after the event at Madison Square Garden) I was at Times Square when I heard or in fact read about it as the screen out there flashed a tweet about Rajdeep's episode earlier in the day.
Once done interviewing and usual stuff, took a walk down to Madison Square Garden. The Venue where Rajdeep was heckled in the morning. By the time I reached, the speech was still on, so took a pit-stop right across the street at my hotel to charge the batteries of my cell phone and my digicam.
I return, interviewed a couple of people on their way out. But while I interviewed the last family, I hear some noise, quite different from 'Har Har Modi' or the 'Modi Modi' chant across the 7th Avenue. I turn around only to find Rajdeep Sardesai and a senior cameraperson in the middle of a mob trying to calm down a group of approximately 50 people around him. My first Reaction: Are these guys for real?
Second reaction: To see if any other TV crew was there, none! I barge in, just to check if Rajdeep was alright. Yes, he was. Smiling, calm, and trying to reason out a crowd which wasn't prepared to listen to anything he said. Then the pushing and shoving begins. A barrage of abuses follow. Why? Probably because of Rajdeep's tweet about an influential person staying in the same hotel as Narendra Modi's.
The mob called him by names and hurled the choicest of words towards him. When I tried to shield the fellow journalist, I realised, that I became a target as well. This went on for good 10-15 minutes. The NYPD was right there, but won't blame them for not knowing what was going on in the middle of that crowd of 50 odd people. The cameraman had to ensure his equipment was safe, so was trying his best he could, to fend off a few people who tried to come closer to Rajdeep. This went on for good 10 minutes.
Despite my repeated requests to stay away from Rajdeep, the mob continued to shout pro-Modi slogans right in front of his face to instigate him. A particular person wearing glasses, and once again in an orange attire, almost shoved his phone into the cameraman's lens to which Rajdeep protested.
Luckily, fellow scribes Mohit Roy Sharma and Bhupendra Chaubey arrived at the scene. Three of us literally made a human chain, to get Rajdeep out of that place. I'm sure all of this is on tape as the cameraman might have stopped recording, but the PCR back in India would have everything that transpired in front of that camera lens.
I say this with conviction that a lot of people had their cameras rolling as well. The abuses, the pushing and shoving, and the instigation, all on tape.
Yes, you have every right to be a supporter, but let's not mix a fan with a fanatic. Learn to respect other people. Learn to respect to earn respect. Just a few minutes ag o, the Prime Minster delivered a lovely speech about peace and how India is a great democracy. But you guys defy all logic.
I hope this post is shared and reaches all the people who saw the second episode right in front of their eyes and captured it on their cameras.
Look inside you, and just think what you did and ponder upon what you could have done.
Peace
Mr mahendra u r misleading people with ur baseless version
Otherwise, I'm sorry to say but you're just blowing hot air. This is the US and not India. NRIs don't tolerate this hit-and-run "sab chalta hai" attitude.
As it is, NRIs have been defamed due to this incident. The least you could do is show the courage to stand up if you are speaking the truth. As you can see, many are ready to stand with you as long as you are saying the truth!
It is a given in a crowd some pushing and shoving does happen. But if one comes back and assaults that would be per-meditation and is with intent.
So do not paint Mahender with something that is not there
I am Proud of you my brother and love you so much.
Kudos to you. You taught a good lesson to this man (whom I won't call a journalist, he is rather a blabbering TV anchor who tries to satisfy his egos by abusing any one who welcomes Mr Modi)
He is a blot on his profession and is unable to conceal his emotions.
Anytime you visit India do give me an honour to host a dinner for you.
Regards
Anshu
His line of questioning itself was incorrect and ill-timed. It shows his dhimmitude
I am sure you will take legal recourse and make Rajdeep pay for this.
The only thing to rue is that you are too civilized for Rajdeep. Once he had physically assaulted you and you had self-defense on your side, Rajdeep should have been taught a lesson he never forgets. How I wish he pushes me once.

By the way are you like this to your family as well...
Keep your calm learn some manners. I am not accessing this blog from India and that is what I see. I've removed my comment since I do not want to create another confusion. But you search for this title in google and see the URL it displays. Again don't come back and abuse me results might be different in different countries.

If Senior journalist want to see a Crowd Frenzy, they should visit Tamil Nadu after the court concluded that a politician was guilty of corruption.
If Senior journalist wants to question integrity of a Representative of People of India, they should have questioned the previous un-elected Representatives of Republic of India.
It seems the senior journalists don't consider themselves as sane voice and focusing on issues marring the Nation, but it seems happy to play a role of brokers for those aspiring to rule our Nation.
