Meluhha inscriptions (5) deploy 10 hieoglyphs of metalwork on Indus writing

The following are 5 inscriptions of Indus writing which recur on inscribed objects of the Sarasvati-Sindhu (Hindu) civilization.






The number of hieroglyphs deployed to create these inscriptions are ten which detail the Meluhhan metalwork. The following are rebus renderings of Meluhha language glosses which make these inscribed texts, -- be they on miniature tablets, copper tablets, seals or sealings or potsherds -- catalogs of Meluhha artisans' metalwork. (The hieroglyph numbers are based on Mahadevan 1977 Indus Script Corpus).

dāṭu‘cross’(Telugu) Rebus: dhatu ‘mineral’ (Santali).




koḍi ‘flag’ (Ta.)(DEDR 2049). Rebus 1: koḍ ‘workshop’ (Kuwi) Rebus 2: khŏḍ m. ‘pit’, khö̆ḍü f. ‘small pit’ (Kashmiri. CDIAL 3947).



kana, kanac = corner (Santali); Rebus: kañcu = bronze (Telugu) bell-metal. 1. Pa. kaṁsa -- m. (?) ʻ bronze ʼ, Pk. kaṁsa -- , kāsa -- n. ʻ bell -- metal, drinking vessel, cymbal ʼ; L. kaṇḍa kan-ka'rim of jar' (Santali)kanka (Santali) karṇika  ‘scribe’(Sanskrit) Rebus: karṇī, supercargo for a boat shipment. karṇīka ‘account (scribe)’.कारणी kāraṇī ‘the supercargo of a ship’ (Marathi) कर्णधार [ karṇadhāra ] m S (A holder of the ear.) A helmsman or steersman देशकुळकरणी  [dēśakuḷakaraṇī]  m An hereditary officer of a Mahál. He frames the general account from the accounts of the several Khots and Kulkarn̤ís of the villages within the Mahál; the district-accountant. kaṇḍa'pot' (Santali)kaṇḍa'fire-altar' (Santali) 




baraḍo = spine; backbone (Tulu) Rebus: baran, bharat‘mixed alloys’ (5 copper, 4 zinc and 1 tin) (Punjabi)



baṭa = rimless pot (Kannada) Rebus: ) baṭaa kind of iron (G.) ) bhaṭa furnace (Gujarati) 




dula‘pair’ Rebus: dul‘cast metal’. 



gaṇḍa'four' Rebus: kaṇḍa'furnace, fire-altar' (Santali)
