PROBE ASG BID TO SHIELD PC IN MAXIS DEAL: SWAMY
Sunday, 14 September 2014 | PNS | New Delhi | in Sunday Pioneer
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold an immediate probe on the “dubious move” by the Counsel of Enforcement Directorate in the Supreme Court recently. Swamy alleged that Additional Solicitor General Nageshwar Rao, who was UPA appointee and still continuing, had tried to provide escape route to former Finance Minister P Chidambaram by informing court that ED had completed probe in the Aircel-Maxis scam.
“It was to the surprise of the entire Bar present in the court today (September 8) that Additional Solicitor General Nageshwar Rao who was originally appointed as ASG by the UPA Government had has continued as re-appointed ASG by out Government, rose to defend the position of UPA and refusing to restore Rajeshwar Singh as Investigating Officer. This caused great embarrassment for all those who want out Government to succeed in the fight against corruption in high places. There was shock that the ASG for our Government was defending the UPA Government! said Swamy to PM in a letter dated September 8, narrating the entire incident in the Court.
Swamy was provoked by ASG Rao’s argument against the restoration of Rajeshwar Singh as Investigating Officer, who was “removed by Chidambaram”. The ASG also made a “false declaration” in the court that the ED does not need the services of Rajeshwar Singh any more as all probes in the Aircel-Maxis was over. The ED has not yet started probe in the Aircel-Maxis case and the SC Bench comprising HL Dattu and SA Bobde rejected ED’s arguments and ordered to absorb Singh within three days.
