In his first open reaction on Stalin being named as the likely successor to Karunanidhi, the latter's elder son M.K. Alagiri made his view known on Friday. The Union minister said the DMK was not a math where the baton could be handed down.
"DMK is not a math... ask this question to Karunanidhi," Alagiri said angrily as reporters asked him about the DMK chief's succession plan.

Alagiri asked news persons to read Stalin's interview to a vernacular publication wherein he recalls an old remark by Karunanidhi: "The DMK is not a Sankara Math."
According to sources, Alagiri camp has been pretty upset with Karunanidhi's hints given on Thursday. They said Alagiri spoke to his supporters after the DMK patriarch tipped Stalin to be his successor. He has told them that till Karunanidhi was alive there would be no changes in the party structure, sources said.
Alagiri has told his supporters that since mantle was not being passed immediately, they should start working hard to consolidate, sources added.
