BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday informed the Supreme Court that he has come to know that a Cabinet decision has been taken to “not touch” the ancient Ram Sethu or the Adam's Bridge in implementation of the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project.

When a Bench led by Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu asked him to reveal the source of his information, Dr. Swamy remained steadfast and said that he was even prepared to go to jail if what he said turned out to be wrong.

He said it was now for the court to ascertain the information from the government and called for an early hearing in the issue, which has been pending in the apex court for long. The court agreed to schedule a hearing soon.

It was . Dr. Swamy who moved the Supreme Court seeking that the project be scrapped as the original route was to cut across Ram Sethu. He had requested the court for mandamus to direct the government “to follow any other alternative route or alignment without affecting or destroying or demolishing the historic and sacred place Rama Sethu.”
